Our PhD students gather for Residential School 2023
October 13, 2023
In mid-October the CRC held its second residential school for postgraduate research students. About half of the students in our research community joined us in Sydney for a series of workshops which provided them with a chance to enhance their knowledge of pathways to industry employment, governmental hydrogen programs in NSW and related public sector roles/jobs in the energy transition, and of intellectual property management. Staff from APA Group, Fichtner Australia and New Zealand, GPA Engineering, GHD, the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer, NSW Office of Energy and Climate Change, and Griffith Hack generously joined the group for a couple of intensive days of presentations and interactive workshops to share their knowledge and perspectives.
Additionally, the residential school included a wider mix of activities including a social dinner – at which members of the CRC’s Board, staff, and key industry partners joined the group – and site visits to green hydrogen and biomethane demonstration projects. These site visits to Jemena’s Western Sydney Green Hydrogen Hub and the Malabar Biomethane Facility included detailed briefings by Jemena and Zinfra engineers on the development and engineering design of these sites and any key lessons learned. Feedback from attendees indicates that students particularly appreciated both the opportunity to visit these cutting-edge demonstration projects and the unique opportunity to have informal discussions with staff from industry and their fellow students.
The CRC wishes to express its appreciation to everyone who contributed to a successful week and a rich learning opportunity for students in our research community.
