Webinar: Understanding householder electricity and gas practices – Managing the transition of customers with vulnerability towards future fuels

February 25, 2025

1:30pm-3:00pm Tuesday 25 February (AEDT)

Timing Update: Due to some short-notice, unavoidable commitments we’ve had to reschedule the timing of this webinar to 1:30pm-3:00pm AEDT

Join our webinar to discover more about RMIT University’s latest research into household energy use in Victoria, research project RP2.1-10.

Households are at the heart of the shift toward cleaner and more sustainable energy. Understanding how and why people use electricity and gas at home is essential for developing policies and technologies that align with real consumer needs. What influences their energy practices? How do conditions such as home efficiency, affordability, household size, and cultural or linguistic diversity shape energy consumption patterns?

Speakers

Associate Professor Nicola Willand and Dr Pabasara Wijeratne,
School of Property Construction and Project Management, RMIT University

Panel

Jade Park, AusNet and Professor Jan Hayes, RMIT University

RMIT University’s latest research explores the energy consumption and outcomes of 48 owner-occupier households. The study uncovers key insights into household energy use practices, vulnerabilities, and the transition to decarbonized energy by integrating real-time energy and indoor temperature monitoring, householder interviews, and field observations. The study’s findings include social energy practices that shaped indoor temperatures and four household archetypes that represent people’s approaches to the low carbon home transition.

This webinar is open to everyone and a recording will be available on our website.
